April Round Up for the GBCTA at River Market Coop (04/01/2026)

The Gateway-Brown's Creek Trail Association has been selected as the recipient for all round up contributions throughout the month of April at the River Market Community Co-op. Shoppers are asked as they check-out if they would like to round-up their purchase.

Special thanks to the members of the River Market Community Co-Op who voted to include the GBCTA as a charitable recipient.

Brown's Creek Breeze 8K Run (04/11/2026)

We have almost 200 tree seedlings coming our way at the end of April, and we need help getting their delicate roots in the ground.

Date: Tuesday, April 28

Time: 5 pm - 6:30 pm

Location: Gateway State Trail, south of Hadley Ave. (map)

Please register so we know our volunteer count for the day.

Volunteers should bring:

Sturdy soled shoes with ankle support. We will be planting on slopes.
A shovel or two, if available.
A metal rake, if available.
Work gloves.
Sun protective clothes, hat, and a good layer of sunscreen.
Water.
Rain gear, if needed.

Parking: Volunteers will park on the street, just north of 5242 Granada Ave N (The house address is ONLY a point of reference. Do not go to the house. We will meet on the road, by a trail access point.)

Please join us for the GBCTA 2026 Annual Meeting.

6:00 - 6:30 pm Topic Tables. Chat with our partners at the MN DNR and Scandia, visit with board members about the equestrian trails, volunteering, trail safety, and more. Plus, it's a great opportunity to re-up your membership.

Please stop by our advocacy table to write postcards to MN legislators in support of state bonding funding to resurface the southwest end of the Gateway Trail.

6:30pm - 7:15pm: Annual Meeting.

Guest Speaker: Michael Wojcik, Executive Director of Mike MN. Michael will be talking a bit about e-bike and e-moto use on trails.

We'll also share updates about plans for 2026, and pay tribute to Peter Seed, who fought tirelessly to have the old Soo railroad line designated as a state trail - the Gateway.

Expert birder, Marie Culhane, will lead two fabulous bird walks on May 9. Stepping in for longtime lead, Bob Bystrom, Marie and the groups will see what the Spring migration brings our way.

INFORMATION: We will leave the parking lot at 7:00 a.m. and return to the starting point at 8:00 a.m. We will identify as many species as we can by sight and sound during the hour. Bring binoculars if you have them. This is usually a good time and place to see migrant warblers.

INFORMATION: We will leave the nature preserve parking area at 8:30 a.m. and return to the starting point at 9:30 a.m. Again, we will identify as many species as we can by sight and sound during the hour. Bring binoculars if you have them. This is usually a good time and place to see resident and spring migrant birds.

WEATHER CONTINGENCY: Drizzle or light rain is OK, but the walks will be canceled if it’s very windy or significant precipitation is likely.

There is no cost and no registration required for either of these events.

2026 National Trails Day - stop and visit! (06/06/2026)

National Trails Day is an annual event held on the first Saturday of June. It is sponsored by the American Hiking Society and supported by The National Park Service.

Each year, the Gateway Brown’s Creek Trail Association honors the day with hospitality tables at various locations along the 26 miles of the Gateway and Brown's Creek trails. Stop by and visit. We'll have information about the trial system, expansion plans, snacks, and beverages to share.

Visit us at the intersection of the Gateway Trail and Highway 96, the Gateway Trail at Flicek Park, and the trailhead of the Brown's Creek Trail in Stillwater.

2026 Townie Tuesday & GBCTA Volunteer Appreciation Event (08/11/2026)

Volunteers are the lifeblood of the Gateway-Brown's Creek Trail Association's work. That's why we're again excited to celebrate and honor our volunteers with a special appreciation night at Lift Bridge Brewing in St. Paul.

The brewery will also donate a portion of its sales to support trail work.

We will again have the grill fired up. And trail volunteers eat free.

Please come out and join us. All are welcome.
