Help restore a little slice of prairie.
Thanks to a grant from the Parks & Trails Council, the Gateway-Brown’s Creek Trail Association and DNR are restoring a blend of native prairie plant species on two parcels along the Gateway Trail that have been impacted by non-native woody species.
Volunteers needed: Saturday, October 2, 2021, 8 am – 10:30, on the Gateway Trail at Lansing Ave N
Work will involve manual cutting of invasive woody plants and shrubs (e.g. buckthorn) on two small prairie parcels. Removing the brush is critical to prepare the sites for re-seeding to restore the native prairie.
Work is appropriate for ages 10 and up. But note: two adults will be following behind crews to apply chemical herbicide directly to cut buckthorn to deter regrowth.
